Community Assignment Groups:
This week, I spent some time researching online communities centered around disability ministry. I wanted this project to be relevant and useful to my day-to-day work. As the Special Needs Coordinator at my church, I am always looking for opportunities to grow my understanding, expand my resources, and better support the families we serve.
Since I am not personally a parent of a child with special needs, I thought it would be valuable to join a community for mothers of children with disabilities as my "lurking" community. My goal is to listen and learn from the real experiences, perspectives, and concerns of parents who are navigating these challenges every day. By observing these conversations, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of the needs of the families in my ministry and keep those insights in mind as I serve and advocate for them.
For the community in which I will be actively participating, I joined a Facebook group for disability ministry leaders. This community provides a space for ministry professionals to share resources, discuss challenges, exchange ideas, and learn from one another's experiences. I am excited to connect with others who are involved in disability ministry and to discover new strategies and resources that can help strengthen our church's support for children with disabilities and their families.
